Module 2 focuses on the study and application of self-assembly processes to obtain hierarchical structures made from natural and synthetic materials. The materials and the self-assembly processes are often inspired by nature. Equally, exploiting properties on a hierarchy of length scales is a common concept nature uses to design materials with exceptional properties. In terms of material properties, a particular emphasis is put on photonics, which nature uses in various forms such as for camouflage or signaling.
