Christoph Weder is a professor for Polymer Chemistry and Materials at the Adolphe Merkle Institute of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and also serves as the Director of this new center for fundamental and applied research on soft nanomaterials. Chris is also an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA) and a Visiting Professor at Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand).
Chris was educated at ETH Zürich (Switzerland) and MIT (Cambridge, USA), and held appointments as lecturer at ETH’s Materials Department and for nine years as Professor in the Department for Polymer Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA).
Chris’ main research interests are the design, synthesis, investigation of structure-property relationships, and exploitation of novel functional polymer systems, in particular stimuli-responsive polymers, biomimetic materials, and polymer nanocomposites.
He is a recipient of the 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award, the DuPont Young Professor Award, an NSF Special Creativity Award, and an ERC Advanced Grant.
Chris has co-authored over 160 scientific papers and book chapters and is co-inventor of 14 patent families.
Chris currently serves as Associate Editor for ACS Macro Letters and co-Editor of the RSC Book Series Polymer Chemistry. He is on the Editorial Advisory Board of several journals, including RSC Advances, Journal of Materials Chemistry C, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and some of Wiley’s Macromolecular journals.
